Turning Up the Volume:
New Voice in Public Health

We believe in the power of storytelling—and sometimes, the most powerful stories come from emerging voices. This year, we had the honor of collaborating with Abigail Weiss, a passionate public health advocate and the host of Dose of Reality, a podcast created as part of the We Fight Fentanyl campaign.

Abby is a recent graduate of Moravian University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, and she’s currently pursuing her Master’s at Lehigh University. Her voice, perspective, and lived experience bring honesty and urgency to the opioid crisis—something that can’t be fabricated or faked. It’s felt in every episode.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Abby was recently nominated as a director of the Governance Committee with Sync Recovery Community, a nonprofit focused on supporting substance use recovery through shared purpose, community, and service. She brings more than just credentials to the podcast—she brings truth, strength, and a deep well of empathy.

A More Human Approach to Prevention

Working with Abby on Dose of Reality has been a powerful reminder that public health communication is most impactful when it’s rooted in connection, compassion, and lived experience. This podcast is helping to shift the conversation around addiction, recovery, and prevention—making space for real people to be met with understanding, support, and hope. Abby’s journey, shaped by the loss of her father to opioid misuse, fuels her mission to ensure others don’t have to endure the same pain. Through her voice, she’s turning personal loss into purpose—creating a platform where stories heal, educate, and inspire change.

Through Abby’s thoughtful interviewing style and natural warmth, Dose of Reality becomes more than a podcast. It becomes a safe space to explore hard truths and healing journeys. Dose of Reality podcast episodes will explore the opioid crisis through deeply personal stories and expert perspectives—from lived experiences with addiction, incarceration, and recovery, to the roles of treatment providers, law enforcement, and faith-based support systems. Featuring voices like Abby Weiss, Stan “the LETI Man,” local clinicians, and community advocates, each episode uncovers the human side of substance use disorder and the collective efforts to support healing and hope.

Behind the Scenes with Kudu

As creative collaborators with the Monroe County Commissioners, our team at Kudu played a key role in developing the podcast from concept to launch—developing themes, shaping episode arcs, scripting support, and producing both the audio and visual versions of each episode. We wanted the format to feel immersive but approachable—an antidote to the detached, sterile messaging that often surrounds substance use education.

Where our typical branding work polishes a message for clarity and impact, Dose of Reality asked us to do the opposite: to slow down, strip away the gloss, and make space for people to tell their stories with dignity and honesty.

A Platform for Real Impact

Podcasts are uniquely positioned for this kind of emotional depth. They allow space for nuance, for silence, for reflection. Abby’s approach—authentic, informed, and grounded in lived experience—has helped shift the narrative from awareness to action. It’s not just about what fentanyl is; it’s about how we show up for those impacted by it.

With more episodes to come, Dose of Reality is just getting started—and so is Abby. We’re honored to play a creative role in this work and to support a voice that represents the future of public health advocacy.
